One Child Killed, Three Injured, in Unintentional Shootings Today

A 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed in a home in Houston, Texas. He and a sibling found the gun while they were playing. The “weapon accidentally discharged,” striking the boy who was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, but it is not clear if anyone will be charged.

A six-year-old boy in Early Branch, South Carolina, is recovering from an accidental gunshot wound to his face. His mother said that is was an accident that involved an unsecured gun. The state’s Law Enforcement Division is leading the ongoing investigation.

Two children were injured in separate accidental shootings in Pennsylvania.

In Andreas, Pennsylvania, 31-year-old Jeremy Schlier told police he was moving a .22-caliber rifle from the basement. When he set it down on a playhouse outside, he thinks he must have touched the trigger causing the rifle to discharge, striking his three-year-old son. The boy was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Schlier was charged with recklessly endangering another person, and person not to possess or use a firearm.

And in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a teenage girl was shot in the face, and is in critical by stable condition at the hospital. One of several teens hanging out in a bedroom, brought a .380-caliber handgun with him. After he racked the slide and removed the magazine he told the others it was now unloaded. He gave it to a girl who pointed it around the room, then pulled the trigger hitting the victim. Most of the teens fled the scene, and the boy who brought the gun left taking the gun with him. He also threatened to beat the girl who shot the victim if she spoke to police. The female shooter is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a minor, and recklessly endangering another person. The boy who brought the gun is charged on multiple counts including intimidation of witnesses or victims, firearms not be carried without a license, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
