Five-year-old Girl Shot and Killed by Sibling

A five-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed by her seven-year-old sibling in a house in Bonifay, Florida. The two children, along with their mother and a six-year-old sibling, were visiting the home; the seven-year-old found a pistol that belonged to the homeowner. The homeowner was in the house, and the mother was on the property when the shooting happened. “The kids and mom are from Alabama, and they were visiting a friend. The grandparents’ house is about one or two miles from the residence where it happened.” explained the sheriff. The seven-year-old brought the gun to a bedroom where the other children were; the gun went off striking the five-year-old. The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. No one has been charged, but the case is still being reviewed by the State Attorney’s Office. “It’s the responsibility of the gun-owner if they have kids around, whether it’s their kids or anybody else’s kids, it’s their responsibility to put guns up where kids can’t get ahold of them, and accidents like this happen,” said the sheriff.
