Toddler Injured After Dropped Gun Fires

In Houston, Texas, someone dropped gun that fired, striking a three-year-old child in the chest. The child was seriously injured, but is in stable condition and is expected to survive. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the shooting.

Six Unintentional Shootings Today

Malachi Hagan Moses, a 12-year-old from Corbin, Kentucky died after a weapon discharged in the bedroom of a residence, striking him in the stomach. An autopsy was conducted and there is an ongoing investigation into the middle schooler’s death.

An 8-year-old girl in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is in critical condition after being shot in the head by what is believed to be an “accidental discharge.” Information about the circumstances of the shooting has not been released as the investigation is still ongoing.

In Washington, D.C., a 12-year-old girl was sitting in a back bedroom of her apartment, when s he was struck by a stray bullet. Her mother said the bullet pierced through the vinyl siding, hitting the girl in the back but luckily missing her spine. She is currently in stable condition. “It’s too many people who have guns and don’t understand the consequence of them firing and it’s sickening and sad,” said the advisory neighborhood commissioner.

A stray bullet that came through the wall of her second-floor bedroom hit a 72-year-old woman in the back, in Akron, Ohio. She is recovering at the hospital. It was reported that people in two separate vehicles shot at each other as they drove down the street, but so far no arrests have been made as police continue to investigate.

A woman was shot and seriously wounded outside a restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama. Police describe the incident as a possible accidental shooting between family members, likely a brother and a sister. A suspect has been detained for questioning, as detectives continue the investigation.

And a police employee in Dallas, Texas, was s hot in the arm when a gun in the property room unintentionally discharged. They were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The police chief sent out an internal memo saying that the weapon was “not rendered safe,” and outlined steps to ensure that all weapons are safe before they’re submitted to the property room. Police have not released information about who fired the gun, as they continue to investigate.
