Man Injured in Gun Cleaning Accident

A man was injured in an accidental discharge while cleaning a firearm in his home in Chillicothe, Ohio. He told police he recently retrieved a gun safe from the remains of his old residence that had been destroyed by a fire earlier this year. Some of the guns were beginning to rust, so he soaked them in soap and water. He was holding a stainless steel Smith & Wesson 686 Magnum .357 revolver after cleaning it. He said he didn’t know the gun was loaded, and after cycling the cylinder he pulled the trigger, firing a round that struck his pointer finger. His wife took him to the hospital for treatment.
