Pastor Killed by Roommate During Burglary

In Houston, Texas, a local pastor, 62-year-old Pedro Cantu, was accidentally shot and killed by his 35-year-old roommate during an attempt to stop a burglary-in-progress at their home. The 44-year-old burglar was also shot during the encounter, but is expected to be OK. There is an ongoing investigation into the shooting.

Cantu served as a pastor to a local church for about 30 years. In a special prayer service, family members, friends, and congregants showed up at the church to share memories and honor a man they say was devoted to his faith and community. His daughter said, “[i] want people to know that my father was a peaceful man. He did not own a firearm, regardless of what you may have heard.”
