Second Grader Injures Hand With Gun Brought From Home

A seven-year-old boy brought a gun to his second-grade classroom in Glen Burnie, Maryland, and accidentally shot himself in the hand. His teacher quickly secured the gun, and took the boy to the nurse’s office to wait for first responders. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. “None of us can imagine the terror or the fear that students experienced here this morning, and the teacher,” said the police chief. The building was placed on hold during the incident and students were dismissed early.

When police searched the boy’s home they found multiple unloaded firearms both secured and unsecured; and in a vehicle they found a gun and a gun box that was missing the firearm used in the shooting. Eashan John Stefanski, age 34, the partner of the boy’s mother, has been charged with leaving a loaded firearm accessible to a minor.
