Five People Shot Outside Bus
A witness said that a fight started on a bus in Washington, D.C., erupted into gunfire seconds after a group of teenagers were let off. Three adults and two juveniles were shot, sustaining injuries that were not life-threatening. The shooter fled the scene and remains at large. “We don’t believe everyone that was struck was involved in the shooting that occurred. There were people that were just there that appeared to be unintended targets,” said the interim police chief.
People on the bus were upset when the driver told them that it was policy that the bus needed to remain in place with its doors open. “…The bus stayed right there, with its doors open. We all stayed prone on the bus floor. Young women outside the bus began screaming and crying. Everyone was terrified. It was clear that at least one person with a gun was right outside the bus,” said one witness. The CEO for Metro bus said that when police arrived the bus was secured as part of the crime scene and would not be moved. He also said they have video and audio that will help the investigation, and are reviewing the incident to see if any improvements to their procedures and training for drivers should be implemented.
