Two People Dead, Two Wounded, in Unintentional Shootings Today
The circumstances of a deadly shooting in Cutler, California that killed 19-year-old Madison Mendoza are under investigation. Mendoza was dropped off at the hospital by 37-year-old Joseph Morales, who was uncooperative with investigators and later arrested. “We do think this was accidental. These two appear to be friends. Their families know each other well,” said a police spokesperson. Morales has been charged on multiple charges including felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
In Memphis, Tennessee, a 15-year-old was seriously injured after he shot himself while he was actively showing off a gun on social media. The gun fired striking him in the ear. He is recovering at the hospital.
And two unintentional shootings occurred inside vehicles.
In Lecompte, Louisiana, a passenger in a vehicle was handling a gun that fired, fatally striking them in the head. The driver met the ambulance in a high school parking lot, where the victim was pronounced dead. Officials determined that it was an accident, but continue to investigate.
And in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a 22-year-old woman was injured after being shot inside a car. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. Durrond Porter, age 33, was charged with tampering with evidence, a 29-year-old woman was detained, and a 32-year-old woman, who owned the car, was taken into custody. The shooting is under investigation.
