Hunter Killed Passing Rifle to Friend
In Raceland, Louisiana, 45-year-old Garret Verdun was killed by an unintentional discharge from a rifle that he was passing to his hunting partner. They were navigating a cattle guard while they walked to their hunting spot. Verdun was struck in the head with a .308 caliber bullet, and died before first responders arrived. In a statement, the department of wildlife and fisheries reminded hunters traveling between hunting spots to carry their firearms unloaded with safeties on.
