Five-year-old Boy Fatally Shoots Himself

Andreas Woodland

Five-year-old Andreas Woodland was with family in a townhome in Indianapolis, Indiana, when he found a gun and fatally shot himself. His parents were not home at the time. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and later died there.

“There’s no words that can ever express the feeling I’m sure this family member is going through that was the owner of this firearm and how it got into this child’s hands,” said a police department spokesperson. “We talk about being responsible with gun ownership, we talk about these things, guns locks at our libraries that are free, we can hammer those things, but right now this family is just going to be torn apart inside.”

Police are interviewing the boy’s family members, as they continue to investigate.
