Marine Recruit Shot During Marksmanship Training
At the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, South Carolina, a recruit sustained a gunshot wound to the foot during marksmanship training. The victim is in stable condition at the hospital. The Marines did not release additional information about the shooting, saying, it would be “inappropriate to speculate on the circumstances until all relevant facts have been reviewed.” “We are committed to conducting a thorough and transparent review of the event.”
This was the second accident during rifle training at Parris Island in less than three months. In August, Pvt. Aduel Goddard was shot in the leg with a rifle during marksmanship training. That incident is still under investigation.
