Woman Shot in University Residence Hall

An 18-year-old woman was accidentally shot in an on-campus residence hall of a university in Peoria, Illinois. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Edward Traywick Jr., age 19, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID, possession of a firearm under 21 years old, and reckless discharge of a firearm. Both the woman and Traywick were visiting a student and did not attend the school.

The university president released a statement about the incident recognizing that the incident “…can understandably cause fear and concern…” and noted that “…[g]uns are not permitted on Bradley University’s campus, and we take any violation of this policy with the utmost seriousness…There is no ongoing threat to our campus community.” In the afternoon, police and university officials discussed the incident in an open student forum.
