Three Accidental Shootings in Ohio Today

In Cincinnati, Ohio, a five-year-old girl is expected to survive after being accidentally shot by her six-year-old brother, that sent a bullet into her temple and out her eye. The children’s mother told police that her son climbed up a dresser in a closet and got ahold of the 9mm Glock handgun. It is unclear if the gun was loaded and unsecured, or if the boy loaded it. The sheriff’s office did not say if any charges would be filed against the children’s parents or the gun’s owner.

Few details were reported about an accidental shooting in Dayton, Ohio. One victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. The shooting is under investigation.

And in Boardman, Ohio, a man accidentally shot himself while handling a gun at a business where he was employed. A coworker reported that the man picked up the handgun from behind a counter and held it to his head, saying to the coworker, “[s]ay I won’t do it,” when the gun accidentally discharged. The man apparently had a history of reckless behavior with guns and was not suicidal. He is in critical condition at the hospital. The shooting caused a local school to be locked down during dismissal for 10 minutes.
