Woman Seriously Injured After Being Shot by Downstairs Neighbor

A woman is in stable condition, after sustaining life-threatening injuries from a bullet fired by her downstairs neighbor’s AR-15 style rifle that came through the floor of her Groton, Connecticut apartment. Responding police applied two tourniquets to the woman’s right leg saying there was a “significant amount of bleeding.” She was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. Caleb Bean, age 30, told police he “had accidentally discharged his firearm while attempting to cycle the action of his rifle,” sending the .223-caliber round through his ceiling and into the apartment above his. According to the police captain, Bean was in legal possession of the rifle due to his military status. The rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun were retrieved at the scene. Bean has been charged on multiple counts, including assault, reckless endangerment, and unlawful discharge of a firearm,
