One Teen Dead, Another Injured, in Separate Gun Accidents

Fourteen-year-old Deshoune Pope found a gun while at a friend’s house in Mathis, Texas, and fatally shot himself in the eye. Police are investigating the shooting to determine how Deshoune got hold of the gun, and so far no one has been charged.

From a GoFundMe page, Deshoune, affectionately called D-Man, “…had a deep passion for football, a love for the outdoors, and a fearless heart that led him to enjoy horseback riding, hunting, and fishing.”

And in Chadron, Nebraska, a 16-year-old boy was wounded with birdshot while out dove hunting on private property. Officials determined that another member of his hunting party accidentally shot him at close range. He was treated at the hospital and released. The game and parks commission is investigating.
