Eight-year-old Boy Unintentionally Kills Himself with Unsecured Gun

An eight-year-old boy was alone in his father’s home in Jackson, Mississippi, when he found an unsecured gun and shot and killed himself. The boy was spending the weekend with his father, Quaron Hilliard, age 29, who has been charged with child neglect. An autopsy is being conducted as officials continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting.

“A very sad, sad, sad situation. We as adults have to step up and be adults in our community. We have to supervise our children. We have to show them what to do and what not to do, and I would hope that if he had kept his son for the weekend, he would spend some quality time with him, not leave him at home with a weapon or a gun, and subsequently, this baby lost his life,” said the police chief.
