Two People Accidentally Shot and Killed by Family Members

In Canton, Michigan, Amyira Thomas, age 13, was accidentally shot and killed by her older brother, 23-year-old Jay-Veon McKinney. McKinney was captured on video playing with two guns an hour before the shooting. “The video shows him in possession of both firearms and I’d call it careless playing with the firearms, reenacting, anyway you’d like to categorize it,” said the deputy police chief, “[b]ut it’s definitely careless behavior which we believe led to about a half hour later the death of his sister.” McKinney has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

And in Bradenton, Florida, 76-year-old Andrew Douglas, was unintentionally shot and killed by his son, 35-year-old Ian Douglas. Ian told deputies he was showing his father a gun that discharged, striking his father in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Ian has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of an elderly person.
