Five People Injured in Gun Accidents, Including a Two-year-old

In Columbus, Georgia, a 12-year-old is expected to recover after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police determined that it was an accidental shooting, but no other information has been reported.

An employee at a local restaurant in Detroit, Michigan, said he found a gun that fired while he handled it, injuring himself and two customers. The bullet struck his hand, went through a doorway, and hit two customers. All suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and one was taken to the hospital. Police are investigating.

And in Phoenix, Arizona, a two-year-old boy shot himself in the arm with a gun his father, 27-year-old Oscar Guerra, left on a couch. Guerra said he had planned to clean the gun and laid it on the armrest of the couch, but then “became distracted with watching online videos on his computer.” The boy’s mother was in the kitchen when she heard the gunshot, and told investigators that based on a previous incident when Guerra left the gun accessible, she told him to secure his firearms. Guerra was charged with child abuse. Police and the department of child safety are investigating.
