Five Children Injured in Unintentional Shootings Today

A three-year-old was airlifted to the hospital after the child shot themself in the foot with an unsecured gun found in a home in Valdese, North Carolina. The 57-year-old homeowner, Danny Berry, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and failure to secure a firearm in the protection of a minor.

In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a 10-year-old boy is expected to be okay after shooting himself in the hand with his parent’s gun. Investigators will determine if charges should be filed. 

While playing at a soccer complex in Columbia, South Carolina, a seven-year-old girl was grazed in the wrist by a bullet.She was treated at the hospital and released. Police believe the shot was fired from an illegal shooting range near the complex. Footage from security cameras will aid the investigation.

In Mesa, Arizona, 42-year-old Shamonica Cannon got into a struggle with her two teenage children who were trying to take a gun away from her. Her 16-year-old son was shot in the neck during the fight, and is expected to recover. Cannon was charged on multiple counts including aggravated assault and endangerment.

And in Louisville, Kentucky, an altercation between two brothers escalated when the younger brother, a 17-year-old, got a shotgun and pointed it at his adult brother. During a struggle for the gun, it went off striking the younger brother in the calf. He is expected to survive, and has been charged with assault, wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a minor, and possession of a defaced firearm.
