Three Children Injured in Gun Accidents, Including a Three-year-old

In Leesville, Louisiana, two three-year-olds were playing in a bedroom, when one of them found a gun under a pillow on the bed. The toddler fired the 40 caliber handgun, seriously wounding the other three-year-old. The injured boy was taken to the hospital. Fernando Mejia, age 35, was charged with cruelty to a juvenile for failure to properly secure the gun used in the shooting.

A child in Fort Worth, Texas, was injured by an accidental discharge while a family member was cleaning a gun. A ricocheted bullet hit the child, who is in stable condition and expected to recover. Police continue to investigate.

And in the Bronx, New York, a 14-year-old girl is expected to recover after being accidentally shot in the cheek by a friend showing off his gun. So far no one has been charged.
