Three People Injured in Gun Accidents Today

A father was grazed by a bullet outside a day care center in Jacksonville, Florida. According to the day care center’s owner, a young child, who was not enrolled with her, got access to a gun that fired. Police arrived to find the man with an “approximately two-inch-long gash horizontally across his forehead.” He was treated at the hospital and released. The sheriff’s report did not reveal the circumstances of the shooting, but indicated the gun used was a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, someone was charged with culpable negligence, and that a minor was involved. There is an ongoing investigation into the shooting.

Police are actively investigating the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in a townhome in Nashville, Tennessee. He is in critical condition at the hospital. Four teens ages 15 to 17 were “playing with guns,” when the accident happened. One of them fled the scene with the guns, and so far he has not found. The guns were recovered by police; one had been reported stolen, and another matched the caliber of the shell casing used in the shooting. The other two uninjured teens are being questioned to determine the circumstances of the incident.

And a 65-year-old man in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is in critical condition after being shot in the back while lying in bed with his wife. Police determined that the bullet came through the ceiling of the man’s apartment; discharged by a 52-year-old in the apartment above while he was cleaning his gun. The investigation was handed over to the district attorney’s office. It is not known if any charges will be filed.
