13-year-old Boy Shot and Killed
Thirteen-year-old Jonathan Kazemi died after apparently shooting himself with an unsecured gun found in an Irvine, California home. He didn’t live in the home, but came with another boy to visit with a friend, and it’s unclear if anyone witnessed the shooting. A police sergeant said, “[w]e don’t know at this point, and we may never know if it was intentional or accidental.”
Police arrested 56-year-old Christian Douglas Yeager, who was not home during the incident, on suspicion of criminal storage of a firearm and child endangerment. Detectives believe the gun used was “unsecured, loaded, and resting on a nightstand in plain view within Yeager’s bedroom.” They also recovered multiple other unsecured firearms that Yeager owned.
