Woman Killed, Toddler Severely Injured in Gun Accidents

A two-year-old was severely injured after shooting themselves in the calf with an unsecured gun in St. Louis, Missouri. Roderick Miller and Taiesha Campbell have been charged with child endangerment, armed criminal action, and evidence tampering. Miller and Campbell gave police conflicting statements about the circumstances, and attempted to hide the gun in a wooded area on their way to the hospital. Eventually Campbell admitted that she and Miller had left the gun on a couch after cleaning it.

And in Summerville, South Carolina, a 73-year-old woman picked up her new gun at a gun store and range, and was found fatally shot in the parking lot a short time later. According to the police report, the handgun she purchased was fully loaded with six rounds in the cylinder and the hammer cocked. The store’s manager said the woman picked up the gun, but returned minutes later saying she had issues with it. He cleared the gun for her and advised her to take a safe-handling class. She was discovered in her car by an employee on his lunch break.
