Three Accidental Shootings Today
A man accidentally shot himself in the parking lot of an elementary school in Hampton, Virginia. He was found in a vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to the hospital. The man was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, and reckless handling of a firearm.
While responding to a house fire in Springfield, Ohio, Captain John Pirk was struck by a bullet from a gun that discharged due to the fire. He was hit in his padded elbow, and didn’t realize at first he was shot. He was treated and released from the hospital.
And a three-year-old boy got ahold of his father’s gun in Harlem, Georgia, and shot himself in the shoulder. His father, 34-year-old Spencer Allen Johnson, who is a decorated firefighter, has been charged with child cruelty.
