Legally Blind Man Accidentally Shoots Friend During Confrontation With Roommate

In Spokane, Washington, 53-year-old Dan D. Phelps accidentally shot his friend Joey Anselmo in the leg, while Anselmo was trying to help Phelps evict his roommate. Phelps, who is legally blind, fired a gun at the roommate’s door, but accidentally hit Anselmo. Phelps told police that after shooting Anselmo, he was helping him up the stairs, fired another round into the roommate’s door, and accidentally discharged a third round when he mishandled the gun. Anselmo did not want to press charges against his friend, but Phelps was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree assault for trying to shoot his roommate.
