Three People Killed in Accidental Shootings, Including a Mother Shot by Her Two-year-old
Jessinya Mina, age 22, was shot and killed by her two-year-old child in Fresno, California. According to a statement by Mina’s sister, the gun belonged to her sister’s boyfriend, 18-year-old Andrew Sanchez, who ignored her sister’s request to not keep a gun in the home. Sanchez was charged with negligent storage of a firearm and child endangerment.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, a teen accidentally shot themself in the head, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The teen was at home alone when the gun discharged, and police are investigating the incident as an accidental shooting.
And in Sulphur, Louisiana, Gavin Demeritt, age 22, was accidentally shot and killed by a 16-year-old who believed the gun he was handling was unloaded. Four people had gathered in a home, and it’s believed that Demeritt was playing around with the gun; and when the 16-year-old got a hold of it, he handled it carelessly and shot Demeritt in the chest. The teen was charged with negligent homicide and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
