Teen Killed in Vehicle with Stolen Gun
In Rapid City, South Dakota, Isaiah Taha, age 17, was handling a gun in the backseat of a vehicle that fired, fatally striking 16-year-old Kade Potter, who was sitting in the front seat. Police determined that the gun used had been reported stolen from a vehicle last month. Taha was charged on multiple counts including manslaughter, minor in possession of a pistol, and receiving stolen property.
In a statement released by Kade’s family, they mourn his loss and implore families with kids to talk to them about gun safety. “If you have a gun, make sure it is locked up. Although that is important, it is not enough to keep your kids safe. Have a conversation with your kid(s) about what to do and how to excuse themselves from any situation … where a gun is present.”
