Three Unintended Shootings on Halloween
Dusty Clausen, of Payette, Idaho, who is the father of two young children, including one who is three months old, is in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself on Halloween. While removing a loaded rifle from a gun safe inside his home, the trigger snagged on other firearms in the safe, discharging a bullet, which struck Clausen in the hand and face. “It’s definitely a stark reminder for people to double-check their weapons before they store them,” said a local police official. Clausen was flown to a hospital in Boise where he faces multiple surgeries.
In St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, a teenager accidentally shot himself in the leg during an altercation at a Halloween event. The 17-year-old gunshot victim was believed to have been involved in a fight when the incident occurred. The sheriff’s office said deputies found a Glock 9mm handgun at the scene; however, the victim was not cooperating, so no other suspects have been identified.
