Woman Killed and Husband Injured on Walking Trail, Toddler Fatally Shoots Self, and Teen Critically Injures Eight-year-old Sister with Gun He Thought was Unloaded

On a walking trail in Summervile, South Carolina, Lori Wind, 54, was shot and killed by Kristofer Kelle McDonald, 20, who discharged several rounds from a 20-gauge shotgun thinking he was shooting at a deer. Wind’s husband was with her and was also shot, but his condition was not reported. McDonald has been charged on multiple counts including involuntary manslaughter, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

A two-year-old girl in Paris, Texas, got ahold of a family member’s gun and fatally shot herself in the head. Police continue to investigate and are still considering filing charges.

Also in Clayton, New Mexico, an eight-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the head by her 17-year-old brother Gio Blan, who thought the gun was unloaded when he aimed it at his sister’s head and pulled the trigger. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Blan discarded the gun that “did not belong to anyone in the residence” in a dumpster. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence, and may face additional charges once the investigation is complete.
