Two People Killed, and Four Others Injured, in Unintentional Shootings Today
A five-year-old girl died in an accidental shooting in Seguin, Texas. Few details about the shooting were reported, and no charges have been filed.
A two-year-old in Saint Louis, Missouri, was seriously injured after shooting themself in the abdomen with a gun left accessible by 19-year-old Jeremiah Woods. Woods was alone in the living room with the child when the shooting occurred, and has been charged with child endangerment.
A 54-year-old man in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, shot himself in the finger while testing the sensitivity of the trigger of his Sig Sauer firearm. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Three teens were playing with a gun in a bedroom in Valdosta, Georgia, when it accidentally fired, hitting a 14-year-old. The boy’s injury was not life-threatening. One of the other teens tossed the gun in a creek, but it was later recovered and determined to have been reported as stolen. All three were charged with theft by receiving stolen property, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a person under 18 years of age; one was also charged with tampering with evidence.
Arthur Osborne, age 58, was unintentionally shot and killed by 77 year-old Kathleen Geiger in Cincinnati, Ohio. Geiger said that Osborne “jokingly” asked her to shoot him. She thought her gun was unloaded, pointed it at Osborne and pulled the trigger, striking him near his pelvis. Geiger has been charged with reckless homicide.
And in her home in Tiller, Oregon, 63-year-old Carolyn Hatley accidentally shot herself while handling a firearm. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
