Elijah Thomas

Seven-year-old Elijah Thomas, was accidentally shot and killed while visiting a friend in a home in Lancaster, California. The sheriff’s department is investigating to determine details about the shooting. A gun was recovered at the scene, and so far no one has been charged.

Two other gun accidents involved people who shot themselves in their vehicles on school property.

In a high school parking lot in Louisville, Kentucky, a student unintentionally shot himself in the leg while he was in his car. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The principal sent a message to students and their families assuring them that the gun was never inside the school building, nor were any shots fired there. The principal also reminded everyone that guns are not allowed on school property.

And a construction worker working on a new building for the high school in Lafayette, Louisiana, was in his car when he accidentally shot himself in the hand and leg. He was treated at the hospital. The school released a statement saying that the man was parked in a secured area “near the construction site that affords no access to the school.” Police are investigating.
