15-year-old Girl is Killed, and Two Other Teens are Injured in Gun Accidents Today

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, 15-year-old Tyra Terry was pronounced dead at the hospital after she was accidentally shot in the chest. The suspected shooter has not been arrested, but two teenage cousins of Tyra, who initially denied having knowledge of the shooting, have been charged with aiding an offender after the fact. Police found a clear extended magazine containing the same 9mm bullets found in the victim. A witness who saw the suspect in the room with the two cousins, told police that “[e]veryone kept saying it’s an accident!” and [t]he gun just went off!” Investigators believe the shooting happened because a gun was negligently handled.

In Laredo, Texas, a 16-year-old male was accidentally shot in the abdomen by another 16-year-old. The victim is in serious condition, and the suspect has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

And in a home in Detroit, Michigan, a teenage boy found a handgun and unintentionally shot himself. He is recovering at the hospital as officials continue to investigate.
