Two People Dead, Three Wounded, in Unintentional Shootings Today

In Russellville, Arkansas, Jack Poole, a 19-year-old university student majoring in nursing, was found dead from a gunshot wound in an off-campus apartment. Police believe it was an accidental shooting, but it’s unclear who fired the shot. Poole played for his high school basketball team and was student council president. The president of the university expressed condolences to his family and friends. “…Our university community will be present and ready to assist in the grieving process for those close to Jack.” Officials continue to investigate.

In Columbia, South Carolina, Eugene Bell Jr., was accidentally shot and killed by his cousin, Tamara L. Anderson, age 39, when he tried to intervene in a fight between Anderson and an acquaintance. Anderson “produced a firearm” during the fight according to police. Bell was pronounced dead at the scene, and Anderson was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

A child in Norman, Oklahoma, was injured in an accidental shooting when a bullet grazed “an extremity.” The child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other information has been shared by police at this time.

An eight-year-old child in Belton, South Carolina, accidentally shot themself and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is an active investigation into the shooting.

And in Manassas, Virginia, a 27-year-old woman was accidentally shot by a relative. Travis Lamont Singletary, also age 27. She was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Singletary was handling a gun that unintentionally fired, and was charged with reckless handling of a firearm.
