Two-year-old Boy Killed, Three Other Children Injured in Gun Accidents
Zane Sebastian Burgess, a two-year-old boy from Simpsonville, South Carolina, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and died. Deputies believe that Zane found a gun inside the home and shot himself. His 32-year-old mother, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child; and his mother’s stepfather, age 50, was charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk. There is an ongoing investigation, as officials wait for the coroner to determine the cause and manner of death.
Few details were reported in the accidental shooting of a teen girl in a home in Kansas City, Missouri. Police say she was shot while a group of teens were playing with a gun. Her injuries were serious, but not life-threatening. Police continue to investigate.
A seven-year-old boy is in critical, but stable condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest in an apartment in Inkster, Michigan. Police believe that a reckless discharge of a firearm caused the child’s injury, and have identified a person of interest.
And in Springfield, Ohio, a 13-year-old girl is expected to survive after being accidentally shot in the neck and shoulder area by her 15-year-old brother. Police say the brother is facing a domestic violence charge, and another juvenile is being charged in connection to possessing the gun.
