Two Men Injured in Gun Accidents

Zachery James Hampton, age 26, unintentionally shot himself in the leg at a Walmart self checkout in Richfield, Utah. According to police, Hampton “was apparently adjusting the handgun that was being held in the waistband of his pants when it went off.” Several customers near Hampton, and potentially in harm’s way, were startled when the gun discharged. Hampton was arrested and charged on multiple counts including reckless endangerment, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and carrying a concealed loaded firearm.

And a man was accidentally shot in his apartment in Sierra Vista, Arizona, when his next door neighbor, Ian Rice, age 42, fired a round that went through their adjoining wall. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Rice was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and two counts of endangerment. Police continue to investigate.
