Five-year-old Girl Unintentionally Shot by Deputy During Carjacking
At a gas station in Atlanta, Georgia, five-year-old Skylar Adams was asleep in the back seat of her mother’s car, when a deputy fired at the vehicle to prevent 25-year-old Roshauny Mike Palmer from carjacking the car and fleeing. Skylar was injured and is recovering at the hospital. According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, her injuries were caused by “what appeared to be a small ricocheting fragment from the officer’s rounds.”
Police had earlier tried to arrest Palmer for a separate incident. He escaped, and led them on a high speed car chase which resulted in him crashing his vehicle. He then ran to a nearby gas station and attempted to carjack the car with the little girl in it. Palmer was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges.
