Toddler Kills Self After Finding Loaded Glock

In a home in Flint, Michigan, 2-year-old Cortez Legend Guy found a loaded Glock .40-caliber handgun at home and fatally shot himself in the head. Responding police found the mortally wounded toddler and a bloody trail that led them to the gun used. The toddler was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

His 26-year-old father was home at the time of the shooting and now faces charges along with two of his cousins. The cousins were with the father earlier in the evening and police determined that they were smoking marijuana. The gun was registered to one of the cousins, a 31-year-old. All three face multiple charges including violation of Michigan’s safe storage law causing death and involuntary manslaughter. 

The county prosecutor reminded the public that he will strongly enforce Michigan’s new safe storage laws that went into effect in February. The shooting remains under investigation.
