Three Children Injured in Gun Accidents, Including a 2-year-old

A 2-year-old in Zephyrhills, Florida, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after he shot himself with an unsecured gun. Few details have been reported, but there is an ongoing investigation.

In Spring, Texas, a 7-year-old boy gained access to a loaded gun and shot himself in the foot. Little information has been reported, and officials will consider filing charges.

And in Winston Salem, North Carolina, female high school student sustained minor injuries from shrapnel when a gun in a juvenile’s backpack unintentionally discharged. The juvenile who brought the gun that fired has been charged with bringing a weapon to school. A spokesman from the sheriff’s office noted that the school’s metal detectors were not in use on the day of the shooting. There is an ongoing investigation.
