High School Athlete Dies in Accidental Shooting
Carter Gay, a 17-year-old junior at a private academy in Louisville, Georgia, died from a gunshot wound in what was called a “tragic accident.” The coroner said he was found on his parent’s property, but few other details about the accident have been reported.
Carter was a member of the football and shotgun teams at his school, and beloved in the community. He loved hunting, fishing and horseback riding, and had been training to compete in rodeos for several years.
His junior class only had 12 members, some who have known each other since elementary school. One of them said, “[h]e made everything flow easy. He kept our class together…and our school. He was a leader.” He was also a person of faith. “Carter was a true gentleman who was kind and respectful to all and embraced life to the fullest,” said the head of the school.
