Two Children Shoot Themselves with Unsecured Guns, One is Killed
In Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, a young child was shot and killed on the Choctaw Indians’ reservation. It appears that the child shot themself. Choctaw police and the FBI are investigating the incident.
And in Dayton, Ohio, a 1-year-old boy was seriously injured after shooting himself with a loaded, unsecured gun. His mother, Rashaunda Rogers, 24, and her fiance didn’t see what happened, but thought her son ran into a metal tv stand. Forensic nurses in court documents indicated that the boy’s injuries were from a gunshot. Rogers at first told police there were no guns in the home. When police later searched the home and found evidence disputing her statement, including a gun, she admitted she had an unsecured gun stored under her bed and she had tried to hide it. Rogers has been charged in the incident with endangering children, tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability.
