Woman Killed, and Three Injured in Unintentional Shootings
In Memphis, Tennessee, a woman was shot in a vehicle and died. Police say a man and a child were also in the car, and that the child accidentally shot the woman. The woman was a local schoolteacher. The school issued a statement saying they are “deeply saddened by the senseless loss of one of our teachers earlier this week” and will provide resources to help students and staff deal with their grief. No charges have been filed at this time.
Daria Tolokonnikova, 20, a college student in San Diego, California, was grazed by a stray bullet that came through the wall from the adjacent apartment. She was sitting on her bed in the condo she shares with her grandmother while Samuel C. Hernandez, 22, a Marine Corps corporal and her neighbor, was dry firing his gun. The Glock 19 handgun he was handling, accidentally discharged a 9 mm bullet through the shared wall of their apartments. Hernandez was charged with suspicion of negligently discharging a firearm.
In Evansville, Indiana a man was unintentionally shot in the abdomen by his roommate. According to witnesses, the accidental shooting occurred when the roommates where cleaning and reassembling their guns. No charges have been filed.
And a woman was shot once in the ankle in an apartment complex in Waterloo, Iowa. Her boyfriend had another person’s gun in his pants pocket that unintentionally discharged striking the woman. Police are investigating.
