Three Accidental Gun Deaths
A San Angelo, Texas man playacting with his friend’s loaded Radical Arms AR-15 rifle, which he believed was unloaded because the magazine was removed, accidentally shot and killed a relative. According to the report, Benjamin Ibarra was “conducting a fake ‘sweep’ … of the house after the thought-to-be unloaded rifle was given to him.” When he pulled the trigger, a round fired and killed Samantha Ibarra, who was sitting in the living room at the time. Ibarra, a 23-year-old former marine, and his friend had taken Samantha to the gun range earlier in the day to teach her about gun safety. Ibarra has been charged with manslaughter.
Joshua Brown of Toledo, Ohio, age 18, was arrested and charged with reckless homicide after allegedly shooting his mother, Deborah Baker, by accident. According to court records, “[Brown] heard someone walking up the stairs of his home, which caused him to become afraid. [He then] retrieved the handgun he had on his lap, walked out onto the hallway and fired once from his handgun, striking and killing his mother.”
And Ethan Lewis Hahn 24, of Hildebran, North Carolina, was in the Pisgah National Forest when he allegedly slipped and discharged his gun, a .243 CVA Scout firearm. He was shot in his upper right arm. His father found him and performed CPR and first-aid, but Hahn died from his injuries.
