University Freshman Shot and Killed While Walking in Park

Jillian Ludwig, an 18-year-old freshman at Belmont University, was shot and killed while walking on a track in a park near campus in Nashville, Tennessee. The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras and an informant and a witness both identified the suspect as 29-year-old Shaquille Taylor. On the footage the suspect was seen firing multiple shots at a car, and at the same time, Ludwig was seen walking and falling down after being struck by a bullet. Taylor was initially charged with aggravated assault and evidence tampering, but police say these may be modified at the grand jury level.

The mayor said in a statement, “[i] pray that Jillian rests in peace….Yesterday, I recommitted to our participation in Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and I look forward to working with both local and state leaders to make progress on this issue.”
