One Dead, and Two Wounded in Unintentional Shootings
Inside an apartment in Gary, Indiana, a 4-year-old boy was wounded when he shot himself with an unsecured gun. According to his father, the child found the loaded gun in a purse in a closet while his parents were in other rooms. No other information has been provided.
Steven Hanson, 44, of Sinai, South Dakota, died after accidentally shooting himself with a pistol he was using for target shooting. Walking back from the target he had to cross a cattle panel fence, at which point his pistol unintentionally fired, and he was fatally struck. The incident is under investigation.
And in Laredo, Texas, a police cadet accidentally shot himself during a training exercise on holstering and unholstering his handgun. “When he was holstering his weapon, he accidentally shot himself in the leg,” said a police department spokesman. His injury is not life-threatening, and an internal investigation is underway.
