Two Dead and Three Wounded in Today’s Unintentional Shootings
In Houston, Texas, an eight-year-old girl died after being accidentally shot. She was in an apartment with her grandfather and it is unclear who fired the gun. Police believe the weapon used was a revolver that was later found on a bed and they continue to investigate.
Antawn Haynes, 16, was unintentionally shot in Phoenix, Arizona, and later died from his injuries at the hospital. Antawn’s adult brother was holding a handgun when the teen grabbed the gun and it fired. No other details have been reported as police investigate the incident.
A 16-year-old was released from the hospital after receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to his leg. He was in an apartment in Hamilton, Ohio, with a 15-year-old and other juveniles, when a gun, that two teens were mishandling, accidentally fired. The 15-year-old later confessed to the shooting and was arrested and charged with negligent assault. Police interviewed witnesses on the scene and found the handgun in bushes behind the apartment complex.
In Fishkill, New York, a 26-year-old man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the hand during a domestic dispute. He tried to hide the gun and is now facing multiple charges including reckless endangerment.
And in Albany, New York, a 24-year-old man was attacked by two dogs while walking down the street. He shot each dog one time with an illegally possessed 9mm handgun, and also accidentally shot himself in the foot. His injuries are non-life-threatening.
