11-year-old Boy Finds Father’s Loaded Gun

In Memphis, Tennessee, an 11-year-old boy found his father’s loaded handgun on top of a fish tank in his home and unintentionally shot himself. At the hospital, the boy’s mother told police that her son was struck by a stray bullet. But when police spoke with the victim’s father, Kourtney Jones, 30, he told them he had placed the gun on the fish tank before falling asleep, and then after the shooting, he took the gun apart and threw it in the river. Jones has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect, illegal gun possession, and tampering with evidence.
