Police Officer’s 2-year-old Child and Pregnant Woman Killed in Unintentional Shootings

In Howell, Michigan, the 2-year-old child of veteran police officer David Lacey, shot and killed themself with a loaded, unsecured gun that they found in their home. So far, no charges have been filed and police call the incident a personal family matter. However, Lacey’s job status in the department will be reviewed if, after further investigation, charges are filed. The Howell shooting comes less than two months after Michigan enacted a law requiring safe storage of firearms.

After a fight broke out in a bar in Jackson, Mississippi, 21-year-old Ayairia Anderson was trying to leave in her vehicle when she got caught in the crossfire between those arguing. Anderson, who was eight months pregnant, was shot in the head and leg and rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Her unborn child also did not survive.
