Kelsey McDuffie

Kelsey McDuffie, a 17-year-old from Bulloch County, Georgia died after sustaining an accidental gunshot wound to the back of her head. McDuffie’s 18-year-old friend, Adnan Keelin, was showing her how to disassemble and reassemble a 9mm semi-automatic handgun when it discharged a bullet through Keelin’s hand and struck McDuffie in the back of the head. He was treated at an area hospital and released. She was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for surgery and later died.

Six-year-old Billy Ray Mack II, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was at home with his mother and sister when he shot and killed himself with a loaded, unsecured gun. His father, Billy Boyd, said the gun was out of reach, but, “[m]y daughter was in the house, she said he jumped from somewhere and grabbed it.” He added, “I can’t even tell him I love him no more. I can’t even hold him no more.”

And in Monroe Township, New Jersey, 17-year-old Cayden Jones was shot and killed with a .40-caliber Bersa handgun his friend, Nasir Robinson-Sanders, age 18, brought over to his house after taking it from his father’s truck. According to Robinson-Sanders, they were playing around with it all afternoon. Before they left to meet another friend, he claimed to have tried to clear the gun to make sure it wasn’t loaded by removing the magazine, racking it and ejecting a live round, then pulling the trigger. Although he believed the gun was no longer loaded, it fired, killing Jones. Robinson-Sanders is charged with second-degree counts of reckless manslaughter and unlawful possession of a handgun without a permit.
