7-year-old Finds Uncle’s Gun and Unintentionally Kills Himself

Draquine Floyd, Jr., age 7, of Robeson County, North Carolina, found a loaded gun in a family member’s home and unintentionally shot and killed himself.  Authorities have charged Floyd’s great-uncle with “failure to secure a firearm to protect a minor.”

Floyd’s mother told reporters that her son meant the world to his whole family, especially his brothers. “My baby was smart, and he was so joyful. It is just so quiet in my house now without him,” she said. Draquine Floyd, Sr., the child’s father, was too devastated to talk to reporters.
