Three People Killed in Gun Accidents

Kentrell Pouncey of Calumet City, Illinois, age five, was shot and killed after one of his siblings found a loaded gun somewhere outside and brought it home. Pouncey was at home with his three siblings, all under 15, and his mother at the time of the shooting.  Which of the three children pulled the trigger has not been reported.

“Regardless of the circumstances concerning this tragic death, our hearts are broken as this family must now deal with the loss of this young child. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal,” said Calumet City’s mayor.

In Trempealeau, Wisconsin, a 22-year-old reportedly died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot in a local parking lot.  Minimal details have been reported, but there is an ongoing investigation.

And for the second time in a week, a Virginia toddler was killed by an accidental gunshot.  In this case, the child was three and lived in Newport News, Virginia.  “I don’t think this is a political issue,” a local Moms Demand Action representative said. “We need to do something to educate gun owners. We have a program that’s called ‘Be Smart for Kids.’ It’s a program for adults to teach them how to store guns safely. If we could just get that message out, we could save some of these children’s lives.”
